Incident: Tuesday 29th September 2026 (Afternoon)

The team was called at the request of East Midlands Ambulance Service following reports of a male walker who had collapsed and been sick while descending Thorpe Cloud, above the Dovedale stepping stones.

The walker had reached the summit before becoming dizzy and needing to stop. After resting, he attempted to continue his descent but became unwell again and was unable to continue.

A passing walker came across the casualty and stayed with him until team members arrived.

Team members assessed the casualty and, given his symptoms, decided that carrying him from the hill was the safest option. He was kept warm and secured onto our specialist mountain rescue stretcher before being carried down from the steep ground.

On reaching Thorpe Pasture, the stretcher wheel was fitted for the remainder of the evacuation to the waiting East Midlands Ambulance Service crew.

The casualty was handed over to EMAS for further assessment.
