2026-71–74: Four Sunday callouts

Incidents: Sunday 9th August 2026

2026-71: Alstonefield – Injured walker

The first call of the day was to assist an elderly female walker who had slipped from the path between Beresford Dale and Hartington, sustaining an open ankle fracture (where the broken bone has caused a wound through the skin).

A Community First Responder and East Midlands Ambulance Service were already on scene. Team members assisted with casualty care before the walker was carried by stretcher across the fields to the waiting EMAS ambulance.

2026-72: Linacre Reservoir – Police assist

The team was subsequently asked to provide inter-team support after Derbyshire Police requested mountain rescue assistance at Linacre Reservoir.

With another mountain rescue team already committed to an incident elsewhere, Derby MRT attended to provide assistance to Derbyshire Police.

2026-73: Wildcat Crag – Fallen climber

Later in the day, the team was called to Wildcat Crag following reports of a climber who had fallen and sustained injuries to his back and ankle.

The casualty was located above a significant rock step with steep, loose ground below. Team members provided casualty care before securing him onto our specialist mountain rescue stretcher.

A twin-rope system was set up to lower the casualty and stretcher safely over the rock step and down the steep ground. He was then handed over to East Midlands Ambulance Service and taken to hospital for further assessment.

While this incident was still ongoing, the team received another call for an injured walker in Hall Dale.

2026-74: Hall Dale – Injured walker

The team was called to assist an elderly female walker who had sustained a serious leg injury in Hall Dale.

With many Derby MRT members still committed at Wildcat Crag, Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was requested to assist.

The casualty was treated on scene by mountain rescue personnel alongside the air ambulance medical team. A fractured femur was identified as the principal injury.

Working together, mountain rescue personnel carried the casualty up Hall Dale to the waiting air ambulance, which had been able to land nearby. A Coastguard search and rescue helicopter had also been requested but was subsequently stood down once the air ambulance was on scene.

Following the evacuation, team members were able to stand down after a long and busy day.
