Alstom Volunteers Support Derby Mountain Rescue Team
On Tuesday 30th September, the ISR (Integrated Services Readiness) and Technical Publications teams from Alstom came together for a volunteering day at Derby Mountain Rescue Team’s garage in Duffield.
The day was organised by Gavin Duxbury on behalf of Alstom, a train manufacturer based in Derby, and co-ordinated by Robin Knott of Derby Mountain Rescue Team.
Outdoor Work
The Alstom volunteers began by tackling the grounds around the garage. They strimmed the brush and trimmed the hedges along the compound before moving down the lane towards the corner of the water works.
A separate team focused on the hedges and weeds behind the garage, while another group worked on the hedge dividing the compound from the water works.
Indoor Tasks
After lunch, attention turned to the inside of the garage. The floor was swept and pressure washed, while the drying room, toilet, and Robin’s work area were thoroughly mopped and cleaned. Two colleagues also serviced the roller doors by applying grease to the mechanisms.
Vehicle Cleaning
The team then moved on to the rescue vehicles. The interiors were cleaned, and the wheel arches given a much-needed wash down.
Learning About the Team
With the practical work complete, Robin spoke to the Alstom team about the vital role of Mobile 1 and Mobile 3, before giving a short talk on the history and formation of Derby Mountain Rescue Team.
A Day of Impact
The day concluded with a team photograph, marking a productive and rewarding experience for all. The Alstom colleagues left with a greater understanding of the work of Derby Mountain Rescue Team — a charity that relies entirely on public support to operate 365 days a year.
