Derby Mountain Rescue Team has launched a public appeal to support its ongoing wildfire response after deploying for more than ten days in support of Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service at the Tintwistle Moor fire.
Since first being requested, the team's specialist drone capability has been providing aerial intelligence to assist incident commanders. Using live video and thermal imaging, crews have been able to identify hotspots, monitor the fire's spread and help direct firefighting resources safely across the challenging moorland terrain.
While the wildfire has remained the team's primary commitment, Derby Mountain Rescue Team has continued to maintain its emergency response capability for mountain rescues, missing person searches and other incidents across Derbyshire.
As a volunteer charity, long-running operational deployments place additional demands on the team's vehicles, specialist equipment, communications systems and drone capability. Unlike the emergency services, Derby Mountain Rescue Team receives no direct government funding for its day-to-day operations and relies on the generosity of supporters to remain operational.
To help meet the additional demands of this deployment and ensure the team remains ready for future emergencies, Derby Mountain Rescue Team has launched its Support Derby MRT's Wildfire Response appeal.
