Congratulations to our team member Toni, who has successfully completed the Rat Race: Bamburgh Castle to Edinburgh Castle in support of Derby Mountain Rescue Team.
Covering 100 miles in just under 35 hours of moving time, Toni battled through one of the toughest endurance challenges she's ever undertaken. Despite developing painful blisters from around mile 20, she dug deep, managed the pain and kept moving all the way to the finish.
Toni took on the challenge to help raise funds for Derby Mountain Rescue Team's new operational base. The new base will replace the team's long-serving rented garage, providing improved facilities for vehicles, equipment, training and operations, while helping ensure the team can continue responding to emergencies across Derbyshire and the Peak District.
As with everything Derby Mountain Rescue Team does, the project is funded entirely through the generosity of our supporters. The team receives no government funding and relies on donations, fundraising and legacies to cover both the cost of the new base and its annual operational expenses.
A huge well done to Toni on an outstanding achievement, and thank you to everyone who has supported her so far.
If you'd like to help recognise Toni's incredible effort and support Derby Mountain Rescue Team, there's still time to donate:
Every donation, no matter the size, helps Derby Mountain Rescue Team continue providing specialist search and rescue, casualty care, water rescue and drone support, while bringing us one step closer to completing our new home.
⚠️ Fair warning: the final couple of photos show the reality of completing a 100-mile ultramarathon and may not be for the squeamish!
