It is with great sadness that we learnt today of the passing of one of our colleagues, Robin Goodchild, a Life Member and a former Fundraising Officer for the team. Robin passed away in hospital a few days ago after a short illness.

Robin retired from Operational Duty a few years ago, but along with his wife Joan were regular stalwarts at team social activities, both before and after retirement and were looking forward to a situation where the current pandemic had subsided enough to allow another team gathering, having missed their friends within the team.

Robin was always a quietly spoken man, but one who did a great deal of work behind the scenes as Fundraising Officer and was rewarded with the team’s ultimate honour in 2018, the title of Life Member after his retirement.

Robin fought two hard battles against different forms of cancer after leaving the team, but would still do everything in his power to get onto his much-loved hills in the Lake District with his son, Richard or be out in his beloved garden, cultivating an impressive crop of vegetables. His inner strength and steadfastness saw him beat both cancers, but not without a toll being taken.  A toll that sadly, left him unable to overcome his latest illness. Mercifully, his final battle was a short one and he passed away peacefully,  surrounded by his wife, Joan and their son Richard.

We would like to send our sincere condolences and warmest wishes to Robin’s family, his wife Joan, his children Sarah and Richard and all his grandchildren.
