The team was called to Thor’s Cave after members of the public heard shouts for help coming from the slope below the West Window.
On arrival, team members established contact with the group and confirmed that while they were not seriously injured, they were unable to safely move from their position on steep and exposed ground. Two female casualties and their dogs were located on a narrow path high above the valley floor, while a third casualty, a male, was positioned lower down in the gully with injuries to his ankle and hand. Rope systems were established within the cave to safely access the group. The two female casualties and their dogs were raised into the cave system and escorted back to team vehicles.
Following assessment of the injured male casualty, a decision was made to lower him to the valley floor as the safest and quickest option. Team members used rope systems to carefully lower the casualty down the steep slope, where he was further assessed before being evacuated from the scene.
All casualties were safely assisted from the area and the team stood down later that evening.
