2026-30: Thor's Cave – Multi-agency rescue

The team was called to assist multiple casualties at Thor’s Cave, where four people in their late teens had attempted to climb towards the West Window. During the ascent, one individual fell, colliding with another person below them. Team members accessed the group on steep ground and carried out an initial assessment. One casualty was complaining of pain to their leg, hip and back.

A significant multi-agency response was in place, involving Staffordshire Police, Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service crews, Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service crews, Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service specialist rope rescue unit, West Midlands Ambulance Service (including HART), and two Midlands Air Ambulance helicopters.

Three of the group were assisted down the slope on foot using rope systems with team members. The fourth casualty was treated, packaged in a vacuum mattress and stretcher, and lowered to the lower path.

The casualty was then transferred to a West Midlands Ambulance Service land ambulance for transport to Royal Stoke University Hospital for further treatment.
