The team stood down last night (Friday 2nd May) after three days supporting Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service at the large moorland fire in the Goyt Valley north of Buxton.

Our drone capability initially allowed the incident controllers to understand the extent of the fire and its direction of travel. As night fell on the first day, we were able to identify where the fire had made its way into woodland and was burning ferociously. The next two days were spent identifying hot spots with our thermal camera which allowed ground teams and the helicopter water bomber to be directed into specific areas. Huge respect to the fire teams on the ground working in very difficult conditions to bring the fire under control.

Our footage was also used by the fire service to provide regular updates to the public, as well as by several mainstream media outlets
