Multi-Agency search for missing fisherman

The team were called out at 3pm on Tuesday 7th January 2020 to assist Derbyshire Police with the search for a missing fisherman.

The man, in his 70s, had been reported missing by a friend who was fishing in the same area.

Police, Ambulance Service HART, Fire Service, Mountain Rescue, HM Coastguard, DLRAA Helimed 54 were all involved in a major search throughout the afternoon.

The man was not located in the area, and all teams were stood down after dark.

Staffordshire Police coordinated further search efforts throughout the week, with the team deploying a small water section each day.


Update: Friday 10th January, Staffordshire Police have released the following statement:

"Officers have called off the search for missing person Roger Wheat, who was last seen in Ellastone on Tuesday (7 Jan). Sadly, the body of a man, believed to be 79-year-old Roger, was found this afternoon (10 Jan) during a search of the River Dove. His family have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time. We would like to thank colleagues, partner agencies and the public for their assistance and support during the search."
