Fallen cyclist with a head injury

Posted by on

Derby Mountain Rescue Team were called out at midday on Sat 16th February to a fallen cyclist with a head injury. The lady had been cycling along the Tissington Trail when she fell and, despite wearing a helmet, suffered a head injury.

The team were stood down en route as the East Midlands Ambulance crew had arrived and due to the location being on the main trail wouldn't require our assistance. Upon assessing the patient the ambulance crew requested an Air Ambulance for which they would require help to carry the casualty to the aircraft. Having stood down and returned to base the team were called out again and returned to Tissington. Fortunately for the casualty, the Helimed doctor deemed their condition to not be serious enough to warrant a flight to Hospital. The casualty was transported to the Royal Derby Hospital by the Ambulance crew. The team were stood down (again).

As it was a lovely day some of the team members used the opportunity to get an Ice Cream and enjoy the sunshine before returning the vehicles to the garage.
