There is an initial £25 registration fee that covers all the costs of taking part. You should also fundraise for the team.

Yes. All participants are expected to raise at least £100 in sponsorship to take part. The registration fee is not included as part of this amount.

Yes, after registration you will be asked to send us a headshot photograph so we can create your own fundraising page on our website. You can then get your family, friends and work colleagues to sponsor you who will pay via the fundraising page.

No. You will be fully briefed as to what is expected and guided by our specialists. This event is open to everyone, from expert abseilers who want to support the Team in a fantastic location to people who’ve never looked over a high edge before.

If you can walk from the registration tent along the footpath which includes a series of steps to the top of the Crag without assistance and have no disabilities or medical conditions that prevent you from being able to abseil, you can take part. If you do have any fitness or disability issues that might cause you to need to take longer even perhaps requiring a rest stop, then please let us know on the registration form and we will allow for this.

You have to be a minimum of 12 years old on the 24th June 2023 to take part. There is no upper age limit.

You must wear clothing suitable for the activity and the weather on the day. Flat shoes should be worn such as trainers or boots.
You will be given all the safety equipment you need.

No. This event is being organised by, and solely for, the benefit of Derby Mountain Rescue Team. There are only a limited number of abseiling time slots available, so all participants are expected to raise sponsorship for the stated purpose.

On arrival at the Mills and after parking your car if you have come by one, you register with the Team at the identified location in the Mills. You will be fitted with a harness, helmet and gloves and then walk along a footpath to some steps that takes you to the top of the crag where mountain rescue specialists will check that you are correctly wearing your harness and supervise the abseil.

Yes. You will receive a “Certificate of achievement” signed by the Team Chairperson acknowledging the amount of sponsorship you raised. Additionally, official photos of each participant, taken during the descent, will be available to purchase. Prices and formats will be announced in due course.

Yes. Every activity involves some small element of risk, but Derby Mountain Rescue will be taking all reasonable steps to always ensure the safety of participants. Backup systems will be in place so that the team can take over control if an abseiler were to experience any problems.
