Celebrate 60 Years of Derby Mountain Rescue Team

To all past team members

This year marks our 60th anniversary – six decades of unparalleled service, dedication, and selflessness to save lives and to help those in distress in the Peak District and beyond. Since 1964, our team has evolved from a small group of enthusiastic volunteers into one of the most respected mountain rescue organisations in the UK. This celebration is not just about marking a significant milestone but also about honouring the spirit of those volunteers and the countless lives touched by our team's unwavering commitment. To mark this occasion we are organising several events during the year including a Sponsored Abseil, to raise funds for our new Base at Mackworth, a celebratory reunion of past and present team members and others.

The Celebratory Reunion

The reunion will be held later in the year and the date, location and other arrangements will be publicised as soon as they have been finalised. During the evening, there will be a chance to:

  • Walk Down Memory Lane: An exhibition displaying the history of the Derby Mountain Rescue Team, featuring photographs, equipment, and stories from over the years.
  • Networking & Fellowship: Reconnect with old friends and meet new ones, celebrating the bond that unites us all – the passion to help others.
  • Stories from the Past: Talk to long-standing members, those who served in the past and those who currently are operational about tales of incidents, the camaraderie, and the development of our team and equipment.
  • A Toast to the Future: Join us in raising a glass to the future, pledging continued support and dedication to the safety of our community.

This event will also a tribute to the those who have served but can no longer be with us. We will remember them and acknowledge their contributions to our efforts.

If you are interested to be kept informed of these and any other events during this, our Diamond Jubilee, please complete the box with your contact details.

Do you have stories, photographs, or memorabilia you would like to share at the reunion event? We would love to hear from you! Please contact [email protected] with your contributions or for any enquiries about the event.

The Derby Mountain Rescue Team is more than just a group of volunteers; it is a family bound by the desire to help others. Let us come together to honour our past, celebrate our present, and look forward to a future where we continue to make a significant impact.

Warm regards, Robin Knott [Garage Elf, Derby Mountain Rescue Team]
