The People

The team is made up entirely of unpaid volunteers who all give their time freely. Full team members are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, ready to attend any incident in the sizeable area of operations or, when required,to assist any of the other mountain rescue teams with incidents in other areas of the Peak District or beyond.

The team members come from all walks of life and from all age groups. All undergo the same rigorous training and continual assessment to reach and maintain the required standard to be a member of the team.

Team members must be a minimum of 18 years old and reasonably physically fit. Most members have a background in climbing or hill walking and will undergo, on average, 12 to 18 months of training to become full team members. General training consists of approximately one day and one evening per month, plus two weekends each year for full team members, with additional sessions for trainees.

Members need to be extremely committed to the cause, providing much of the personal equipment required for membership in the team and dedicating time to training and team activities as well as being available for call outs at any time of the day or night.

If you would like to join the team and have experience of being on the hills, have reasonable navigational skills and you can give the necessary level of commitment required to be a member, contact the Team Secretary for details.
