Two Days Of Incidents

The team were called to join Edale Mountain Rescue at Dronfield near Chesterfield on Thursday and Friday (22nd/23rd March) to search for a missing 79 year old man.

The man was last seen by his family at 9:30am on Wednesday and has not been seen since. His disappearance is out of character so police became concerned for his welfare and called in mountain rescue teams to search the surrounding rural areas, including Hallowes golf course. SARDA search dogs were also called in to assist the teams.

Both Derby and Edale teams continued the search on Friday, but the man was not located within the areas searched and police are continuing their enquiries.

Whilst the team were involved in the search on the Thursday, they were called to a separate incident at Birchover, where a 45 year old man leading a group of school age children in climbing activities, fractured his ankle. The accident happened whilst the man was walking at the bottom of the of the rock face where they were operating. The team dispatched a vehicle and crew, plus additional team members not initially involved in the search, to deal with the incident. He was treated at the scene by team personnel and evacuated by stretcher over difficult, rocky terrain to a waiting ambulance, where he was taken to Chesterfield hospital for further treatment.

The team members then returned to Dronfield to rejoin the search effort.
