Derby Mountain Rescue Team has received a donation of £1,000 from Denstone College as part of the school’s annual charity fundraising challenge.
Every year the college hold a charity challenge; charities are nominated by the students who must make a presentation to the entire school. The student body then votes on the charities they wish to support that year. The team were nominated by 6th Form pupil, and House Captain, Gareth Sandbrook and subsequently became one of several charities selected to benefit from the funds raised. The pupils and staff have raised money via a host of events, including cake sales and “own clothes days”, a car wash and a “sleep out”, where pupils abandoned creature comforts to sleep outside under cardboard shelters to gain a small impression of what it would be like to be homeless.
The college raised over £7,000 for the nominated charities and a cheque for £1,000 was presented to Team members by House Captain Gareth Sandbrook and the Reverend Rupert Jarvis, the charity challenge organiser.
The team would like to thank the pupils and staff of Denstone College and all who contributed to the fund raising activities.
