Fundraisers Jacqui Keeling and Jane King visited the team at their Duffield headquarters to present them with a cheque for £553. The money had been raised from a sponsored walk held in May.
The friends, from near Sutton-In-Ashfield, organise a walk each year to raise money for a different charity and this year, they set a 7 mile route around the Cromford and Black Rocks area to raise money for Derby Mountain Rescue, who provide emergency cover for that region as well as their home location. Around 30 people took part in the event, consisting mainly of family and friends, ranging in age from seven to eighty years old. At the end of the walk, a cream tea and a tombola were held to raise additional funds. The total amount raised was the largest in the four years that the walk has been held.
Team member, Kevin Corcoran, who accompanied the walkers in May, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Jacquie and Jane and to all those who took part. It’s a fantastic amount to have raised from such an event and we wish them every success with next year’s walk, safe in the knowledge that if they get into difficulty, we’ll be there to help them out!”
After all sponsorship money had been collected, Jacqui and Jane, accompanied by Jacqui’s two sons, Thomas (14) and William (12), were invited to come along to the team’s HQ for a tour of the facilities, vehicles and equipment and to find out how the money they had raised would be put use.
