Derby Mountain Rescue Team were called out at midday on Sunday 10th January 2016 to assist West Midlands Ambulance Service and the Midlands Air Ambulance with a fallen walker. A lady had been visiting Thor’s Cave with her family when she slipped along the stepped path below the cave, sustaining a lower leg injury. The lady was treated by the Air Ambulance crew who splinted her leg and administered pain relief. Helimed 09, which had landed on fields above Thor’s Cave, was moved to a more accessible landing site. Derby Mountain Rescue Team carried the casualty on their specialist stretcher down the path, which due to the recent bad weather was extremely slippery, and across the river to the team’s Land Rover. She was then driven a short distance to the waiting helicopter, which flew her to the Derby Royal for further treatment.
