A body has been found by the team, who had been called to search for a missing person around the Wirskworth/Middleton area.
The team were called by Derbyshire Police at around 5am on Tuesday Morning (5th January) to search for 42 year old local man, Trevor Smith, who had not been seen since the previous evening. Police had become concerned for Mr. Smith’s safety and called on the specialist services of mountain rescue to search disused quarries and rural areas in the local vicinity.
Sadly, a body matching the description of the missing person was located at about 11am by mountain rescue volunteers. The body has not yet been formally identified, but the police do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances.
Twenty members of the rescue team, supported by a specialist search dog took part in the operation.
A team spokesman said: “It’s very sad that there was not a positive outcome to the search. We’d like to offer our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased person at this most difficult time.”
