The team were called to assist East Midlands Ambulance Service this evening after a 77yo male collapsed near Whatstandwell. The man, from Coseley West Midlands, had been walking with his wife along the towpath of the Cromford canal when he became feint and collapsed, knocking himself unconscious. The first mountain rescue team member on scene was one of the team's Doctors who was able to assist in assessing the patient. A total of eighteen Mountain Rescue volunteers attended the scene. The man regained consciousness and was treated by the EMAS crews. The team evacuated the casualty by stretcher to the EMAS land ambulance. He was taken to Chesterfield Royal Hospital for further treatment.
